INFAQ FOUNDATION
INFAQ Foundation was founded in 1982 by the well known banker and philanthropist Aga Hasan Abedi as a charitable organization for the service of humanity. It was Mr. Abidi’s vision to create a township of social services for the benefit of poor deserving families. To implement this, the Foundation purchased a large area of land in Korangi where its various projects including Korangi Academy, INFAQ Community Health Care Center, Girl’s Secondary School, Girl’s Intermediate College, Elementary Teacher’s Training College, Crafts Training and Literacy Center and a Vocational Training Center are located.
The school is a low cost project that was designed for a fishing village – Ibrahim Hyderi. The school is a part of a large complex designed to revitalize the lives of people who for generations have had no proper education or health facilities. The school is a simple configuration of rectilinear blocks that contain the classrooms, administrative facilities, a library, computer laboratories and common spaces, built around two large courtyards and wide verandas for shade and cross-ventilation. In the administrative block, a secondary axis further intersects the central axis to form four small open-to-sky spaces. For low maintenance the building is constructed with pre-cast cement blocks and fair face concrete.
