The Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited (SNGPL) Building was the first fair-face concrete building project in Lahore. The SNGPL’s environmentally sensitive build-to-suit Lahore headquarters consolidate more than (numbers) of the SNGPL’s current Northern Region workforce. It has an interesting play of staggered forms and the unique design of this seven-storey building specifically addresses the SNGPL’s needs to function under one roof. The building’s orientation and massing optimize sustainable qualities and daylight distribution across the workplace enhancing both energy efficiency and employee well-being.
The building being adjacent to Governor House necessitated the placement of an almost solid wall on two sides, ensuring privacy and security. In contrast, the façade opens like a fan with 18-foot-high glass openings, providing plenty of natural light and a modern aesthetic.
HFA opted for Fair-face concrete as one of the architectural features that gives the structure a rugged, low-maintenance, rough, textured look. The front facade’s horizontal glass windows give a modern touch, and the building’s staggered forms break up the mass and add visual interest.
Inside SNGPL the structural design offers modular workstations, open-plan office rooms, and several collaboration spaces. The smooth passage between exterior courts and interior spaces creates a fluid transition between the indoors and outdoors, improves the working environment as a whole.
High-performance floor plates provide flexibility in planning, spectacular views and seamless integration of outdoor courts with interior lobbies. The building’s design is a tribute to contemporary architectural ideas and environmentally friendly construction techniques by not only limiting it to meet the functional requirements.
